The art of hand block printing was created as early as 3000 BC and has been practiced ever since. SATOMI HAND BLOCK PRINT
Thirty-one carved blocks are printed by hand to create the fine linework and shading of this delicate chinoiserie scene. Every yard of Satomi Hand Block Print will be slightly different due to this labor-intensive process. These nuances add to the special luxury of this handmade fabric, available in serene, timeless palettes.

The delicate motifs of Citra Block Print Tape were taken from the borders of the fabric, Anissa Print. Artisans hand-carved custom wooden blocks that are used to hand-print the pattern on an ivory cotton ground. The colorways of this fresh-faced, Indienne-style tape coordinate with Anissa Print, Farrah Print and Tulsi Block Print Tape.

A: The printing of Citra Block Print Tape is done by a single artisan, to ensure the consistency in pressure applied as well as accuracy and alignment.
Q: How long does it take to produce Citra Block Print Tape?
A: It takes nine hours to print about 25 yards of Citra Block Print Tape. After printing, the tape is lightly washed, air dried in the sun, then ironed and packaged.

Before hand block printing in bulk, the artisan practices for some time until a natural rhythm is developed for the actual printing process.

Named for a sacred Hindu plant, Tulsi Block Print Tape is block-printed by artisans in India for a truly hand-crafted look. The colorways of this Indienne-style tape coordinate with Anissa Print, Farrah Print and Citra Block Print Tape.

A: About six people total - two master colorists prepare the ink, a master printer and assistant complete the printing, and two people are in charge of finishing.

Cumbria Hand Block Print
Using the original hand cut blocks from 1922, this print requires 138 blocks to produce one full yard of fabric. This lively pattern features a stylized tree of life adorned with flowers and foliage pairs beautifully with graphic ikats, rustic stripes or rich animal prints and is interpreted in a sophisticated color palette perfect for today’s interiors.

Kelmescott Hand Block Print
This early twentieth century hand block print was discovered in an English archive and has been reproduced using the original wood blocks, which were first cut and printed in July 1924. The multicolored design is composed of 40 separate blocks and requires 80 blocks to complete one full meter of printing, and 1120 per table length. Its charming scenic design of English country life is freshly interpreted in new colorations for today’s interiors. Its allover pattern and crisp linen ground make it a great option for curtains, chair upholstery and decorative accents in great rooms, libraries and bedrooms.
