Scalamandré’s history has always been closely tied to history, and to the reproduction and restoration of historic textiles and patterns found in America and Europe.

Some of our most satisfying restoration projects involve a painstaking degree of work, such as peeling back thirty layers of crumbling wallpaper before finding an unexpectedly beautiful century old design. And only then can the exquisitely difficult work of recreation begin.

Only a true passion for preservation can motivate this time-consuming work—that, and the inspiration that comes from the projects themselves, from the stories of the people who lived and worked in these historic locations, and from the fascinating events they represent.
