Fall 2011: La Dolce Vita

Scalamandre Celebrates Fall 2011 with Passion and Joy

Scalamandre harvests the exquisite with twelve high style designs noteworthy for their beauty, texture and decorative pedigree. Through the lens of art, fashion and design, the collection references Italian and French 18th and 19th century ornamental vocabulary. Exuding glamour, opulence and refinement, La Dolce Vita blends a uniform balance of old and new, presenting material culture from natural to man-made with a confident, thoughtful fusion of the hand and the machine. Maintaining the highest level of quality and construction, La Dolce Vita's masterly use of pattern on pattern combines the decorative and distilled with confidence and endless allure.

Meuse Ornamental
Inspired by an 18th century French document, Meuse Ornamental combines old world decorative and architectural motifs with new world finesse. Woven in Italy of viscose and silk, this stunning lampas is a classic ornamental panel design perfect for upholstered walls, window treatments and chair backs and seats. In six saturated colors, beautifully drawn ornamental elements -- from palm trees, feathers, bouquets and garlands to strands of pearls, tassels and Greek keys – create a glorious, monumental tableau with a vertical repeat of 68-3/4" and a horizontal repeat of 28".

Montpellier Ikat
Uncommon threads, weaves and shading lend dimension, texture and luminescence to this luxurious brocatelle of linen, cotton, silk and nylon. The halo effect of abstracted flowers and leaves create a striking flame stitch pattern. With a soft color palette influenced by the south of France, the matelassé-like Montpellier Ikat is ideal for seating, window treatments, wall upholstery and pillows.

Giraffa
With untamed imagination, Scalamandré has designed a glamorous interpretation of a giraffe's coat. Rather than hides, politically correct cotton, silk and polyester weave in exquisite, trompe l'oeil detail, joins Scalamandré's stylish menagerie. Sun-kissed threads give Giraffa's irregular patches its shape and accentuate the pattern's sheen. For animal lovers of any aesthetic disposition, Giraffa is as versatile as it is chic and can be combined in interiors traditional, transitional and modern.

Gissey Plain
Glamorous Gissey Plain has the appearance and hand of cotton silk sateen without the headache and heartache of maintenance. Durable and fashion forward, its high gloss is reminiscent of Hollywood days of yore. One hundred percent Trevira CS, Gissey Plain is available in five drop-dead gorgeous colorways and is washable, too.

Gissey Texture
A shimmering evocation of moonlight, romance and glamour, Gissey Texture's mottled, hammered surface has an embossed-like effect with patterning that recalls Persian lamb. Five lustrous colorways of beige, grey, bronze, teal and brown mirror Gissey Plain's sultry hues.

Angelique Paisley
Medium sized, raised botahs in an allover, tossed pattern create the appearance of a Matisse–like crewelwork and appliqué on Angelique Paisley's luminous ground. Botah is from the Hindu word buta, meaning 'flower,' and in the 16th and 17th centuries, these stylized shapes were incorporated into highly coveted fabric designs. In an artful blend of silk, viscose and polyester, Angelique Paisley comes in seven glorious autumnal hues.

Herringbone Di Lusso
This Scalamandré-style complex weave of linen and silk was woven to order at Italy's finest mill. Alternating the direction in threading the loom created this universally appealing zigzag pattern. A 'go with' anything design Herringbone di Lusso's eight versatile colorways coordinate effortlessly with the Fall Collection and with just about every Scalamandré classic.

Damasco Floreale
A sumptuous damask weave of silk, cotton and viscose, Damasco Floreale unfurls a lush composition of exquisite tree peonies at the height of their bloom. Available in six radiant colorways.

Gilles Stripe
Stripes in different weaves of linen, silk and viscose lend varying depths of texture that simulate raw silk, linen repp patterning, and ottoman silk satin. A plucky jacquard with a kaleidoscope of five rainbow rich colorways, Gilles Stripe will update and polish any interior.

Shagreen
A durable lisère of stippled faux sharkskin, Shagreen is a hardwearing weave of a viscose, polyester and cotton blend that tops 40,000 on the Martindale scale. Jean-Claude Galluchat, a master leatherworker in the court of Louis XV, first popularized shagreen in Europe. It quickly became a fashion must for the French aristocracy and has since remained a perennial design favorite. Scalamandré's superb Shagreen, available in six sublime colorways, is soon to become a favorite, too.

Damasco Naturale
A painterly interpretation of a large-scaled, framed damask design in tan, blue green and black on a crisp linen and cotton ground, Damasco Naturale is featured in a quartet of handsome colorways of tan on white, blue on white, green on tan and black on white to coordinate with Gilles Stripes, Herringbone di Lusso, Shagreen, etal.

Zebras
Scalamandré's iconic, irrepressible Zebras wallpaper that once graced the walls of New York City's late, lamented Gino's Restaurant has been adapted for a print of cotton and linen. Scaled to the proportions of the wallpaper, the Zebras lithely elude arrows with grace, speed and endless charm. Perfect for window treatments, upholstery and pillows, Zebras are available in the signature Masai Red, Yellow, Safari Brown and Serengeti Green.
